Professional dialogue
Dialogue, according to
David Bohm's book On Dialogue (1990), is a social and psychological activity in
which together we try to reach a better understanding. In a dialogic
discussion, others are met as equals and as equals, with dignity, respecting
different thoughts and interests. Speeches are taken and used equally. Being
dialogic helps to meet people from different cultural backgrounds. Being
dialogic helps to face different cultures and people from different cultural
backgrounds.
Dialogical skills are
honed by practicing, the more you do it, the better you get at it. Temperament
has an effect. A person with an active temperament is naturally involved and
takes up space. Withdrawal temperaments are more likely to follow on the
sidelines. In a dialogical conversation, the active temperament has to learn to
give space to others, and the withdrawn temperament to take space and position.
What is essential is a genuine meeting, where thinking and discussing together
is successful despite different temperaments or cultural backgrounds. Will
understand people's different starting points, feelings, ways of thinking and
beliefs. Move forward by building consensus. Dialogue gives a person the
feeling that his thoughts are important, "I exist, I belong to this
group".
In dialogic inventing,
it is important to be present and actively listen, to meet people genuinely and
sincerely. To truly listen to what the other person says and means. After that,
one's own points of view are re-evaluated based on what the other person wanted
to say. If person do not understand the matter, you can ask questions to
clarify your understanding. we try to find key words in the speeches, and based
on them we inquire with open questions. If a
person believes and trusts that people's perspectives are valuable, he dares to
trust that he too is listened to, and therefore dares to express her views and
thoughts openly, and exposes herself to the influence of other interlocutors.
Debate differs from
dialogue in that its goal is to defend one's own point of view against the
other's claim. In a debate, one's own
position is correct, and the opponent's position is approximately wrong. The
purpose is not to reach an agreement on issues, but being right and winning is
the most important thing. You can win or lose a debate. But there are no
winners or losers in dialogue. Pursuing one's own interests is not a dialogue.
Still, an argument doesn't have to be just a confrontation. Even in that, some
common views can finally be accepted. In a debate, the parties can listen to
each other, and then respond with well-reasoned arguments.
